Aintree Village Parish Council

At the Annual Parish Meeting held on 14 April 2008 at 7.00pm

the following were present:-

C Mitchell (Chairman)

T Baldwin, G Downey, M Duggan, F Forrest, J Harkins, G Payne and M Varney

Two members of the public

The Chairman opened the meeting and thanked everybody for attending and gave an insight into the work of the Parish Council in the last year.

She particularly mentioned

1)      the new fence along Ormskirk Road replacing the very old and very ugly green corrugated metal one

2)      the Parish Council's success in having banners erected by Sefton Council which stresses the point that the Grand National takes place in Sefton and not Liverpool, though a mention of Aintree Village would have been nice

3)      the case put up by the Parish Council to assist two residents of Bradfield Avenue whose lives had been blighted by two overhanging trees and which should hopefully see an end to their plight as the trees would be dealt with shortly

4)      that as part of the Parish Council’s involvement with the Aintree Local History group, a donation of £1,600 had ensured the installation of the commemorative stone in the grounds of Aintree Library for the “Ain Tree” and she thanked Councillor Harkins for her input in that project

5)      the positive conclusion to the problems suffered by a resident  in Aintree Lane who had had a new fence erected plus land dedicated to him

6)      the Parish Council's Section 137 grants this year which had included the Air Ambulance, 2nd Sefton East Scout Group and the Aintree Village Neighbourhood Watch

7)      the major success after a very long fight with Liverpool PCT over Aintree Park Group Practice’s premises which were now to be modernised and she particularly thanked ex-Parish Councillor Peter Gill for his dogged determination in making sure residents’ concerns were heard at the many meetings he attended

8)      the enjoyable and very successful Civic Service held on 4 November 2007

9)      the special Civic Award given to Parish Councillor Godfrey Downey for his exceptional service for over fifty years to the residents of our Parish which was very well deserved

10)  the continued investment in park improvements for all users, including the renovation of the field, bowling green, installation of new play equipment and the new rocking horse in the children’s play area

11)  the successful opposition to the granting of a licence for the Valentine and the lack of complaints to the new Village Inn giving nearby residents some quality of life.

The Chairman then thanked Parish Councillors who had again given freely of their time and for their work and support during the year and also the Parish Council's staff for their work and support. The Chairman then asked the members of the public if they had any questions to ask but as there were none, she declared the meeting closed at 7.10pm.

The above minutes were received as a correct record on 28 April 2008
